Spring always feels like a fresh start. Nature comes alive again, and with it, we often feel that same urge to lift the energy in our homes. The good news is, you don’t need to renovate or spend a fortune to create that sense of renewal. Sometimes, the smallest changes can have the biggest impact—and as a designer, I love showing clients how simple updates can completely transform a space.

Here are my favourite ways to refresh your home this spring, without replacing everything you own.

Swap Out Soft Furnishings

Think of cushions, throws, and rugs as the wardrobe of your home. Just as you wouldn’t wear heavy knits in spring, your interiors also benefit from a lighter touch. Introduce breezy fabrics like cotton or linen and experiment with fresh, cheerful colours. A few strategically chosen cushions in soft greens, sky blues, or floral patterns can instantly shift the mood of a room.

Introduce Seasonal Colour

If you’re not ready for a full repaint, you can still play with colour in smaller, more manageable ways. Accent walls, side tables, artwork, or even a bold vase of fresh flowers can inject a pop of energy. My tip: choose one or two tones inspired by nature—sunny yellows, blossom pinks, or leafy greens—and repeat them subtly throughout the room for a cohesive look.

Style with Fresh Greenery

Bringing in plants or fresh blooms is the easiest way to signal that spring has arrived. A simple bunch of flowers on your dining table, or potted greenery in your living room, adds life and texture instantly. If you don’t have a green thumb, look for hardy indoor plants like fiddle-leaf figs or monsteras that thrive with minimal fuss. Or if you aren’t good with any form of green-dependants then go for the faux styles but try and choose ones that look realistic in colour and texture.

Reimagine What You Already Have

One of my favourite tricks is re-styling existing pieces in a new way. Try moving furniture around, swapping lamps between rooms, or layering a rug over another for added dimension. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective to see your home differently. Clients are always surprised at how much more open and inviting a space feels after a little reshuffle.

If reshuffling furniture is not an option, try your hand upcycling by painting a piece of furniture a different colour, changing cabinet knobs or handles or changing the pictures in your frames.

Lighten Up Your Home

Lighting plays such a powerful role in how a room feels. In Spring, make the most of natural daylight by pulling back heavy curtains or swapping them for sheers. Adding a few mirrors can bounce light around and make rooms feel brighter. Purchasing small items that are mirrored or have gloss surfaces can also contribute to the light reflection and refraction in a space. And don’t underestimate the impact of replacing a lampshade or updating your table lamps for a lighter, softer glow.

Final Thoughts

Refreshing your home doesn’t mean starting from scratch—it’s about working with what you have and making thoughtful, seasonal updates. These little shifts not only make your space feel brighter and more inviting, but they also help you feel lighter and re-energised for the months ahead.

Spring is the perfect reminder that change doesn’t need to be overwhelming. With just a few tweaks, you can create a home that feels new again, while still being uniquely yours.
